The international cruise ship Villa Vie Odyssey, which has attracted widespread attention, is expected to leave Cambodia’s Sihanoukville Autonomous Port at 6 p.m. local time on November 3, ending the time it has spent stranded in Sihanoukville. The ship had suspended its round-the-world voyage because of operating difficulties and rising fuel costs, drawing international attention.
According to available information, Villa Vie Odyssey arrived in Sihanoukville from Thailand on October 23, 2026, with 203 tourists and 156 crew members aboard at the time. The tourists came from a number of countries and regions.
On October 27, cruise operator Villa Vie Residences announced a suspension of operations. The company said fuel costs had risen sharply in parts of Asia, with monthly fuel spending per cabin increasing from about US$1,800 previously to US$6,000–8,000, adding to operating pressure.
While the ship was stranded, the relevant Cambodian authorities actively coordinated assistance with accommodation, transport and tourism for the tourists. The relevant authorities in Preah Sihanouk province also organised welcoming activities so that foreign visitors could experience Cambodia’s warm hospitality.
As for where the ship will go after leaving port, the information currently available indicates that Singapore may be its next stop. In addition, the operator’s financial difficulties and debt problems mean the ship also faces the possibility of being taken over by creditors and put up for auction. However, the final destination, the timing of any auction and subsequent arrangements still await further confirmation.
From its unexpected stranding to its impending departure, the future of this international cruise ship continues to attract outside attention.
