A report released on December 18 by the secretariat of Cambodia’s national committee against online scams said 4,983 online scam suspects were arrested nationwide between June 27 and December 18 this year. Of those, 4,039 had been expelled from the country.
The report said those arrested came from countries including China (including Taiwan), Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Thailand, South Korea, Pakistan, Nepal, Malaysia, Japan, Myanmar, the Philippines, Laos, Cameroon, Nigeria, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Mongolia, Russia, Sri Lanka, Algeria and Singapore.
The report also said local courts were hearing cases involving principal suspects in online scams. At present, 168 principal suspects in 35 major cases were undergoing examination and judicial proceedings.
