Cambodia’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, Yaung Chansophea, delivered a statement at the UN Security Council’s high-level open debate on “Women, Peace and Security”. The meeting was chaired by Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, with Greece holding the Council presidency in October 2026.
He highlighted the importance of advancing gender equality and strengthening women’s role in peacebuilding, describing women’s participation as a key factor in achieving lasting peace, political development and inclusive economic growth.
He also outlined Cambodia’s contribution to UN peacekeeping, saying the country had deployed more than 10,000 peacekeepers, including more than 1,000 women, to 12 UN missions.
Participation in the meeting demonstrated Cambodia’s continued support for the “Women, Peace and Security” agenda and its commitment to promoting women’s participation in peacekeeping and sustainable development. By: Sopheak
