According to an official Thai report cited on December 20, Chinese nationals involved in online scams who had recently fled from Myanmar’s Myawaddy area into Thailand and were being held in immigration detention continued to be repatriated to China. Another 245 Chinese nationals were safely repatriated by air on December 19.
Thailand had previously repatriated 100, 300 and 300 Chinese nationals involved in online scams on December 16, 17 and 18 respectively. The recent cumulative total consequently reached 945.
Thai authorities said this formed part of stronger cross-border cooperation between China and Thailand against online scams, aimed at handling offenders in accordance with the law and protecting the people and public safety of both countries.
