In a recent multinational law-enforcement operation, stablecoin issuer Tether cooperated with the Royal Thai Police and the U.S. Secret Service to freeze and seize about US$12 million in USDT linked to suspected fraud. The funds were identified as connected to a transnational online-scam network active in Southeast Asia.
The report said the operation formed part of a special enforcement effort being pursued by Thailand’s technology-crime suppression authorities. Officers arrested 73 suspects, including 51 Thai nationals and 22 foreign nationals, and seized cash, digital assets and other property with a total reported value of more than US$16 million.
Tether said blockchain ledgers’ high transparency and traceability provided important support for law enforcement in quickly tracking fund flows. The company said it had established cooperation with more than 290 law-enforcement agencies across 59 jurisdictions worldwide and continued assisting efforts against financial crime and online scams.
