The foreign ministers of Cambodia, Thailand and China met in Yunnan, China, on December 29 for an in-depth exchange on the Cambodia–Thailand situation. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that the hard-won ceasefire must be cherished: efforts must not stall, and fighting must not resume. China would continue its constructive role in promoting Cambodia–Thailand relations and was ready to provide all necessary assistance and support, including ceasefire monitoring, when the two sides needed it.

Wang said the trilateral meeting came at a critical moment. Alongside several bilateral meetings, Cambodia’s and Thailand’s foreign affairs and military officials had communicated face to face, showing a positive willingness to ease tensions. He described the discussions as practical and constructive, producing several points of consensus: look ahead and keep moving forward on the basis of the ceasefire; maintain consultation to implement the ceasefire arrangements and improve relations step by step; and make rebuilding trust a priority, recognising that the two permanent neighbours shared a deep foundation of historical friendship.

Wang said the gathering beside Fuxian Lake aimed to bridge differences through dialogue and bring real improvement to relations, serving the common interests of the Cambodian and Thai peoples and international expectations. China was willing to keep supporting ceasefire monitoring, humanitarian assistance and demining cooperation to help relations return to normal as soon as possible. Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak thanked China for providing a dialogue platform and praised its role in promoting peace and ending conflict. The communiqué issued after the meeting called for closer communication, greater understanding, gradual consolidation of the ceasefire, renewed exchanges and mutual trust, and joint efforts for regional peace and stability.
