Summary

The owner of fishing lot No. 15 in Koh Chen, Kandal, said the catch was being made into smoked fish for frontline troops and people displaced by the fighting.

During the fishing harvest season, the owner of fishing lot (dai fishery) No. 15 in Koh Chen commune, Ponhea Lueu district, Kandal province, said he was not selling fish to residents making prahok and pha’ak fermented fish products. Instead, the catch was being sent for processing into smoked fish to supply frontline troops and people displaced by the fighting.

Kandal Governor Kouch Chamroeun said that helping prepare prahok, pha’ak, smoked fish and salted fish for soldiers and displaced people demonstrated solidarity in support of the Royal Government. He said the unity of residents, civil servants, students and local authorities reflected a spirit of Khmer people caring for one another and joining the government and soldiers in defending territorial integrity.

According to Has Sareth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, this year’s fish yield increased by around 10% compared with 2024. He attributed the increase to effective work in key areas, including managing Tonle Sap’s natural resources and preventing encroachment on land and flooded forests that provide breeding habitats for many fish species.
