Summary

Diamond Princess docked in Sihanoukville on December 29, where Huot Hak and Mang Sineth welcomed international visitors and discussed tourism and port development.

An international cruise ship carrying nearly 3,000 foreign passengers and crew from different countries and regions arrived in Preah Sihanouk province on December 29, on the third calendar day of the Cambodia–Thailand ceasefire, sending a positive signal for the recovery of Cambodian tourism.

The Bermuda-flagged Diamond Princess docked at Sihanoukville Autonomous Port that morning. Cambodian Tourism Minister Huot Hak and Preah Sihanouk Governor Mang Sineth went to the port to welcome the international visitors.

Huot Hak said the port call was no coincidence but conveyed a clear message to the international community: Cambodia enjoyed social and political stability, continued development across sectors, and diverse tourism resources, with Preah Sihanouk particularly attractive to international visitors. Mang Sineth also highlighted the province’s tourism, investment and logistics potential and the ongoing deep-water port expansion to accommodate more large cruise ships. He said the foreign visitors’ arrival reflected Cambodia’s peaceful environment.

According to the report, Diamond Princess carried 2,850 passengers and crew, including 1,566 women, from 52 countries and regions, including 1,051 crew members, including 245 women, from 51 countries. Australians and Americans made up the largest passenger groups, numbering 824 and 797 respectively. The ship was scheduled to leave Cambodia that evening for Thailand.
