China, Cambodia and Thailand recently held a high-level trilateral meeting in Yunnan, China, reaching important understandings on strengthening regional security cooperation. Senior officials from the three countries’ foreign-affairs and military departments attended the meeting, and its outcomes were released on the afternoon of December 29.

The meeting agreed that cross-border crime poses a serious threat to regional security and the public’s interests. The three sides agreed to further strengthen coordination and information sharing and take stronger, more practical joint action, focusing on transnational offences such as online and telecommunications fraud, to protect the lives and property of people in the region.

Cambodia and Thailand also reaffirmed at the meeting that they would resolve differences through peaceful means and work with regional countries to address common risks and challenges. The trilateral meeting was coordinated and promoted by China after Cambodia and Thailand reached a ceasefire understanding and implemented an urgent ceasefire on December 27, reflecting regional countries’ efforts to maintain stability through dialogue and cooperation.
