Boats are used particularly for fishing and transport, providing a means of earning income to improve the livelihoods of their users and their communities.
By custom, however busy fishers are, they do not neglect the maintenance of their boats. Maintenance of wooden boats is still mostly carried out traditionally, using liquid resin. Nowadays, however, increasing numbers of fishers are turning to fibreglass boats for everyday use or small-scale transport in the rural areas where they live.
Boats are therefore an extremely important and indispensable means of transport for fishers and their communities.
