Summary

The press club provided body armour and helmets to 21 journalists from 20 outlets on January 5. Nearly 100 sets have been distributed over two rounds for reporting in vulnerable border areas.

Recognising Cambodian journalists’ efforts to overcome difficulties and produce numerous truthful news reports and features about Thai military attacks on Cambodia, the Club of Cambodian Journalists distributed body armour and safety helmets for a second time on January 5, 2026. The recipients were 21 journalists from 20 organisations. Nearly 100 sets have been distributed across the two rounds to help protect journalists working along the Cambodia–Thailand border and at other vulnerable locations in areas attacked by Thai troops.

Body armour and safety helmets bearing a journalist or PRESS label provide a critically important identifying sign for journalists carrying out their work.

The club said reporting from areas attacked by Thai troops not only demonstrated the important role of journalism but also provided evidence or records for research and the compilation of Cambodian historical documents.

According to an Interior Ministry press release, 21 days of Thai military attacks on Cambodia left 32 civilians dead and 95 injured, including journalists, while the total number of people displaced by the fighting exceeded 640,000.
