The Royal Government of Cambodia protested in the strongest terms against Thai violations, including the continued deployment, unlawful occupation and military operations of Thai armed forces in four Cambodian provinces, government spokesperson Pen Bona said on January 4, 2026.
The protest concerned continuing actions by Thai armed forces against Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in some border areas after the ceasefire agreement signed at the third special General Border Committee meeting on December 27, 2025 took effect.
The government spokesperson reaffirmed the Royal Government’s firm and clear position on defending Cambodia’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity through peaceful means based on diplomacy and international law. Cambodia protested in the strongest terms against Thai violations, including the continued deployment, unlawful occupation and military operations of Thai armed forces in the four provinces.
Pen Bona said Cambodia remained firmly committed to defending the Cambodia–Thailand international boundary inherited from the Indochina–Siam Boundary Commission, respecting international law and the principle of the inviolability of inherited boundaries, Uti Possidetis Juris. Cambodia respects the Franco–Siamese conventions and treaties, maps and boundary-demarcation records of the Indochina–Siam Boundary Commission, as well as agreements and related documents previously agreed by both sides. He stressed that Cambodia would not recognise any alteration of the boundary resulting from the use of force.
