Takeo Governor Vy Samnang has set February 7, 2026 for the groundbreaking of the “temple in the middle of Takeo lake” in Roka Knong commune, Doun Kaev city. Initiated by the Takeo provincial administration, the project has received support and donations from benefactors near and far. It is intended to commemorate Takeo’s glorious history and leave a cultural legacy for public worship in the future.
During an inspection of the construction site on Tuesday morning, Vy Samnang instructed technical officials and the project study team to meet all construction standards, particularly to preserve the “ancient Khmer style”, giving the structure authentic Khmer architectural and artistic value and lasting strength.
The governor hoped the temple would become a new historical achievement that enhanced the beauty and appeal of Doun Kaev city. Besides serving as a place of worship, it was expected to attract more domestic and international visitors, stimulate the local economy and improve living standards in the province.
The temple is planned as a strong reinforced-concrete structure carefully clad and paved with decorative sandstone. Its rectangular plan measures 6.56 metres long and 6 metres wide, with an overall height of 9 metres. A traditionally styled roof with curved corners will be topped by a lotus-bud-shaped pinnacle, symbolising purity and prosperity.
