On January 5, Cambodia’s National Police conducted a targeted operation in Borey Peng Huoth in Phnom Penh’s Chbar Ampov district, dismantling four alleged telecommunications scam sites and arresting 32 South Korean nationals suspected of participating in scam activities.
Police seized computers, mobile phones and other alleged tools used in the activities. Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly impersonated South Korean police and prosecutors, using the pretext of “case investigations” to intimidate, threaten and extort South Korean victims. Police described the alleged circumstances as serious.
All suspects have been taken to the National Police for further questioning. The case is under in-depth investigation in accordance with the law and regulations, and subsequent judicial procedures will proceed as prescribed by law.
