On January 6, Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng called on police, military police and all 14 district administrations to continue strengthening enforcement, crack down on telecommunications and online fraud, resolutely shut down all forms of gambling, and eliminate unlawful and criminal activities within their jurisdictions to further maintain public security and order.
Khuong Sreng said district unified command committees had generally performed their duties effectively, but must never let down their guard and must maintain sustained enforcement pressure. He stressed that combating online scams was a key government priority. Districts must thoroughly inspect their areas and immediately investigate and act in accordance with the law whenever premises linked to online fraud were found, regardless of size. Cockfighting, card games, dice gambling, illegal lotteries, lotto and other forms of gambling must also be firmly shut down to prevent harm to people’s lives and social stability.
