On January 7, marking the 47th anniversary of January 7 Victory Day, Senate President and Cambodian People’s Party President Hun Sen delivered a special address to the nation. He called on Cambodians wherever they lived to unite, stand alongside the government, firmly uphold the country’s just cause, and jointly address the challenges to national development arising from complex international changes and global economic uncertainty.
In his address, Hun Sen accused Thailand of launching serious military aggression against Cambodian border areas under the pretext of “protecting its own security and sovereignty”, violating Cambodia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said Thai forces attacked Cambodian troops and used land, naval and air weapons against civilian targets, causing enormous suffering to local people. Hun Sen stressed that these actions flagrantly violated the UN Charter, the ASEAN Charter and international humanitarian law, seriously undermining regional peace and the spirit of the ASEAN Community.

Hun Sen reiterated that Cambodia would always seek peaceful, just and sustainable solutions, but would never compromise on national sovereignty or national dignity. Cambodia would continue strictly implementing the ceasefire agreement and the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, he said, thanking the United States, China and ASEAN countries for their peace efforts. He urged the nation to uphold patriotism and self-reliance, remember history and the harm caused by aggression, and remain confident that national unity would enable Cambodia to overcome every difficulty and challenge.
