On December 31, police in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, announced that they had dismantled a large online football betting ring and arrested 24 people allegedly involved. The case involved more than VND80 billion, approximately US$3 million.
Police investigators found that the group obtained a football betting “super master account” from unidentified people abroad, then divided it into multiple accounts for agents and bettors to place bets on several football betting websites. The group allegedly made illicit profits by artificially widening differences in odds and collecting commissions.
