On January 7, 2026, the Ministry of Interior asserted that the Thai military had continued flying reconnaissance drones into Cambodian territory in Pursat province and around the Cham Yeam international border crossing in Koh Kong. According to the ministry’s press release, Thailand used one reconnaissance drone in Pursat on January 5 and another around Cham Yeam in Koh Kong. On the night of January 6, Thailand again flew one reconnaissance drone in from the area in front of the Road 56 crossing, while two others flew across O Phluk Damrei in Thma Da commune, Veal Veng district, Pursat. These actions by the Thai military could leave the ceasefire fragile.
Regarding the Thai military’s reconnaissance drone flights, the ministry gave no other response, stating only that it was continuing to closely monitor developments on the front line and working shoulder to shoulder with the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces to protect Cambodia’s sovereignty and lawful territorial integrity.
