The United States has recently pledged a total of US$45 million in aid to Cambodia and Thailand to support peace and stability in border areas and combat financial fraud. Of this, US$15 million is for border security and stability, US$10 million for demining, and another US$20 million specifically for combating drug smuggling and fraud.
The US government said combating telecommunications fraud in Southeast Asia was one of its priorities because US citizens had long been victims of these financial scams. The move aims to strengthen regional security cooperation and prevent cross-border crime from affecting the two countries and the international community.
