After a man driving a modified vehicle carrying cassava ran over an anti-tank mine, an explosion almost completely destroyed the vehicle but caused no injuries. On January 10, specialist personnel from the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) went to clear the area near the explosion site in Sampov Loun district, Battambang province, and found three more pits, each containing two anti-tank mines stacked together, making six in total. CMAC Director-General Heng Ratana said the farmland had been cleared for cultivation and used to grow crops for nearly 30 years, since Cambodia’s internal war ended.
