Summary

A February 2 release reported progress as of January 11: 91.2 percent in Mondulkiri, 51.81 percent in Ratanakiri and 96.64 percent for mine and unexploded-ordnance searches.

The border ring-road project financed by the Border Infrastructure Construction Fund reached approximately 72.29 percent overall progress in about 13 months, from December 2024 to January 11, 2026, while searches for mines and unexploded ordnance were almost complete. The figures appeared in a February 2 release from the ad hoc working group managing the fund.

Road construction reached 91.2 percent in Mondulkiri and 51.81 percent in Ratanakiri. Ratanakiri’s lower progress was attributed to more difficult geography. Searches for mines and unexploded ordnance in construction areas reached 96.64 percent, nearing full completion.

For engineering structures, the team completed 26 box-culvert sites totalling 265.80 metres, installed various types of round concrete culverts at 244 sites, built roads and concrete overflow dams for water retention at 11 sites, and constructed one 18-metre concrete bridge.

The release described the progress as reflecting the government’s responsibility to build border roads properly while ensuring transparency, accountability and strong economy in the use of resources. The team would continue working toward 100 percent completion of roads and water-control structures in Mondulkiri by March 2026 at the latest, while accelerating Ratanakiri work, focusing on difficult terrain.

The project deployed eight road-engineering units using 286 vehicles, construction machines and other machines of all types. Five units in Mondulkiri used 200 machines, while three in Ratanakiri used 86.
