An inspection team from the Ministry of Environment and Kratie local authorities seized 25 pieces of sokrom timber in an apparent natural-resource offence on February 19. The ministry said the timber had been carried on four motorcycles across a ferry crossing in broad daylight in Sambour district, Kratie province. The suspects fled before the authorities arrived.
The team handed the evidence to the Sandan Forestry Administration section for legal procedures and efforts to locate the suspects. It would continue working with local authorities, residents and ferry operators to prevent cars, motorcycles and modified power tillers carrying materials involved in natural-resource offences from crossing, and to encourage timely information for enforcement intervention.
