Summary

Y-Farm provides supplementary English and Khmer lessons at Wat Chan Si safety camp. A volunteer said the team teaches there Monday to Friday.

Conflict-displaced Cambodian children staying at Wat Chan Si safety camp in Banteay Meanchey receive supplementary English and Khmer lessons from the non-governmental organisation Y-Farm.

A foreign volunteer called Lvis, nicknamed “Uncle Frenchman,” said he helps teach English to young children displaced from Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages. He wants children and young people to gain knowledge, as the war has prevented many from attending school.

The volunteer, who speaks Khmer fluently, added that his team teaches English and Khmer every Monday to Friday. More than 600 students were staying and studying at the Wat Chan Si safety camp in O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey.

He said children have a long future ahead and stressed the importance of supporting education for those in the camp. Dropping out of school, he warned, would seriously affect their future.
