Summary

The Defence Ministry rejected the February 24 allegation, described military liaison contacts and reaffirmed existing de-escalation agreements.

Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence issued a statement categorically rejecting reports on certain Thai military pages and media outlets alleging that Cambodian forces fired a 40 mm grenade near a Thai patrol position opposite the Koul Prambei–Chak Chreng area in Preah Vihear province at 8:50 a.m. on February 24, 2026.

In the statement, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, the ministry’s spokesperson, called the allegation false and urged Thailand to stop disseminating information lacking a basis, which could mislead the public and increase border tensions.

According to the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces’ 4th Military Region, after hearing explosions and gunfire from the Thai side, liaison teams from Cambodia’s 4th Military Region and Thailand’s 2nd Army Area immediately exchanged enquiries and information. Cambodia clearly stated that its forces had not fired as alleged.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to fully implementing the joint statement of the third special Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee meeting of December 27, 2025, the joint declaration on the peace agreement of October 26, 2025, and other relevant agreements. These focus on easing tensions, countering misinformation and restoring normalcy, peace and lasting border stability.

The ministry urged the public and national and international media to verify sources before sharing information and rely on official information from the government and relevant institutions to avoid spreading false reports.

The article interprets the statement as demonstrating Cambodia’s position of maintaining border peace, stability and security through responsible military cooperation and communication. By KPS99TV
