Two concrete-road projects valued at more than US$700,000 in Sihanoukville are intended to add to the province’s infrastructure, ease residents’ journeys and reduce congestion.
The first project is road 123-13 in village 1, Sangkat 3: 310 metres long, seven metres wide and 0.15 metres thick, with drainage on both sides. The second is road 833 in village 5, Sangkat 4: 1,300 metres long, 12.25 metres wide and 0.20 metres thick, also with drainage on both sides, funded by charitable donors.
On the afternoon of March 4, Preah Sihanouk Governor Mang Sineth led an inspection of both projects, accompanied by the provincial public works director, land management director and technical officers. He instructed officials to arrange clean water, drainage and electricity systems properly and speed up construction to serve nearby residents.
Provincial administration spokesperson Kheang Phearum said the projects would make travel easier for residents of Sangkats 3 and 4 and ease congestion. Drainage on both sides was necessary to prevent standing water and help the roads last longer, he said.
The spokesperson added that the new projects were charitable contributions for public benefit. The road in Sangkat 3 was expected to cost more than US$100,000, and the one in Sangkat 4 more than US$600,000.
