Summary

Thaiheadlines reported that police searched an office on Rama 9 Road on March 4, finding Vietnamese-language gambling sites and seizing computers and phones. Investigations continued.

Bangkok police, immigration officers and cybercrime police raided an office suspected of hosting online gambling in a luxury apartment building on Rama 9 Road in Huai Khwang district on March 4, according to a Chinese-language report published by Thaiheadlines (https://www.thaiheadlines.com/185400/).

The raid followed a lengthy investigation after residents reported that many Vietnamese nationals were working there and suspected online scam activity.

Police detained nearly 100 Vietnamese nationals at the premises and seized at least 50 desktop and laptop computers and at least 300 mobile phones. A preliminary inspection of active computer screens showed Vietnamese-language online gambling sites offering games and football betting, with transactions in Vietnamese dong. Police suspected that servers were located in Thailand and that large amounts of money were circulating.

According to Thaiheadlines, nobody at the site admitted being in charge or provided detailed information. Further investigation indicated that a large private company had rented the office and sublet it to the Vietnamese group from the beginning of the year. Police continued investigating the organisers and associated funds for legal action.
