As Khmer New Year approaches on April 14, 15 and 16, Battambang Governor Sok Lou said the province’s 2026 Sangkran celebrations would follow its religious traditions and customs. There would be areas for religious ceremonies, a Khmer food village demonstrating how to make Khmer dishes and desserts, a folk-games village and an arts village, encouraging residents, especially young people, to participate actively in traditional Khmer games. On March 14, 2026, he instructed all relevant parties to speed up decorations at key locations and complete them before the festival.
After a blessing ceremony in front of the Lok Ta Dambang Kranhoung statue, Governor Sok Lou led technical specialists and the relevant authorities in a meeting to review the detailed plans and inspect the actual sites, aiming to ensure smooth arrangements for the Sangkran event.
The province hopes the celebrations will bring enjoyment to residents and attract visitors. This year’s arrangements will not include large concerts, water-cannon trucks or powder play.
