Following a TikTok story claiming that a woman had two husbands at the same time, Senate President Hun Sen called on those concerned to clarify whether it was real or a performance to attract viewers. The story had prompted widespread online debate.
According to the report, Hun Sen posted on the evening of March 23 that the matter was unrelated to state affairs and expressed his personal reaction to widely shared images said to show the woman living, travelling, eating and working with two husbands.
He again asked whether the relationship was genuine or staged for attention. Speaking conditionally, he described such a woman as “extraordinary” and said that, if the claim were true, it would be highly damaging to Khmer women’s traditions in the modern period after the Pol Pot regime. These were his personal judgments.
Hun Sen said the law and constitution provided for monogamy and contrasted the story with men who conceal second wives or affairs for fear of disputes and legal consequences. He asked the public or the people concerned to clarify the matter if possible.
