Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin said China would continue providing additional assistance for Cambodia’s economic development and defence sector. He said development support would continue, including support for the Funan Techo Canal project.
He made the remarks during a courtesy call on Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary on the morning of March 31, 2026, when he extended greetings ahead of Khmer Traditional New Year.
Wang said China would continue backing Cambodia’s development and that their friendship would remain unchanged, demonstrated by practical results rather than words alone. On the Cambodia–Thailand border dispute, he said China would encourage continued dialogue to resolve problems peacefully, restore normality and secure lasting peace. He expressed confidence that Cambodia would achieve its development goals under Prime Minister Hun Manet, citing the country’s potential and its people’s strong unity.
Khuon Sudary responded that the countries’ ironclad friendship was resilient and reliable in every circumstance. She said their long-standing ties had been strengthened by successive leaders and that Cambodia’s development could not be separated from China’s valuable support, which was helping the country through a difficult period. She thanked China for seeking a peaceful resolution to the border dispute and described its mediation as guided by clear, careful strategies and tactics.
