Kampot’s food street was scheduled to open officially on the evening of April 11, 2026, ahead of Khmer Traditional New Year. Officials said the site was in the heart of Kampot city and would showcase Khmer culture and traditions alongside more than 100 types of food.
The report expected the Khmer-style food street in the city centre to attract more tourists and help improve vendors’ and residents’ livelihoods.
On March 30, 2026, Kampot Governor Mao Thonin led technical departments, the municipal authorities and participating vendors in a stall-allocation lottery at the public hall of Kampot Provincial Hall.
The governor said Prime Minister Hun Manet had instructed all capital and provincial authorities to develop promising local areas and make them more attractive so residents could benefit and public well-being improve.
Vendors expressed satisfaction with the new facilities, describing them as sturdy, clean, hygienic and attractive. They particularly welcomed arrangements to wear traditional Khmer clothing to present the country’s culture to domestic and international visitors.
Soy Sinol, director of the Kampot tourism department, said the street would bring together more than 170 foods prepared by local people, with 52 stalls in total.
The street was expected to draw visitors to enjoy Kampot’s local cuisine and further increase arrivals. Written by Pai Sokhim
