On the evening of March 31, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, presided over a dinner celebrating International Francophonie Day at Rosewood Phnom Penh. The theme was “Generation Z, a generation of peace? Youth involvement in building a peaceful world”.
More than 200 people attended, including leaders from legislative institutions and government ministries, representatives of foreign diplomatic missions, the French ambassador as a guest of honour, and public- and private-sector representatives from the Francophone community.
The celebration commemorated the Francophonie organisation’s founding on March 20, 1970, in Niamey, Niger. Cambodia also announced its preparations to host the 20th Francophonie Summit later in 2026, under the theme “Working to restore peace for shared prosperity and lasting stability”.
