Summary

The ministry’s April 2 advisory warned that prolonged hot, dry conditions could increase residential and forest fire risks and called for precautions.

On April 2, 2026, Cambodia’s Environment Ministry issued a notice about rising temperatures nationwide, warning that residential and forest fire risks could increase without adequate precautions.

The ministry’s assessment said hot and dry conditions could continue for several weeks, making fires more likely to spread rapidly, particularly in residential areas, farmland and forests. It therefore urged the public to remain highly vigilant and strictly implement preventive measures.

The ministry advised against burning agricultural waste, rubbish or vegetation near homes and communities, as even a small fire could develop into a major blaze in extreme heat and strong winds. Careless fire management could damage property and threaten lives, while forest fires could severely harm natural resources and biodiversity.

It also recommended routine safety measures such as extinguishing fires after use, keeping flames away from flammable materials and checking electrical systems for safety.

Local authorities were encouraged to strengthen monitoring and prepare rapid responses in high-risk areas to stop incidents from spreading into large fires. The ministry said prevention protected property and livelihoods while also helping to reduce air pollution and protect public health during hot weather.

The Environment Ministry again called on all residents and communities to cooperate in strictly applying preventive measures to reduce fire risks and ensure public safety during the dry season. Written by KPS99TV
