Cambodia’s first pumped-storage power station is scheduled to break ground in Koh Kong province on April 10, with total investment of about US$1 billion. The report presents it as an important development for renewable energy and peak-load management, marking a further acceleration of local energy-infrastructure construction.
The project is being invested in and built by Cambodia Tatay Hydropower Co., Ltd. Executive Deputy General Manager Zhao Wensheng said the groundbreaking ceremony would be jointly presided over by Wang Wenbin and Keo Rottanak.
According to the report, construction is expected to take five years, with installed capacity reaching 1,000 MW upon completion. It is expected to improve Cambodia’s peak-load management and the stability of energy supplies. This would be the company’s third power project in Cambodia, following the completed 246 MW Tatay Hydropower Station and the 150 MW Upper Tatay Hydropower Station, which involved investment of nearly US$400 million.
