On April 3, Cambodia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation formally protested recent Thai activities along the border. Cambodia described land surveys, occupation and barbed-wire installations as an unlawful attempt to control land, and said such actions would not affect the outcome of the two countries’ joint boundary-demarcation work.
The statement said Cambodia did not recognise any boundary lines or territorial claims unilaterally asserted by Thailand. The Cambodian side said the activities contravened the de-escalation commitments in the joint statement of December 27, 2025, and Thailand’s obligations under existing agreements.
The report referred to land surveys conducted between March 31 and April 2 in Chouk Chey village, Banteay Meanchey province. On April 2, around 70 Thai soldiers with two armoured vehicles reportedly entered the O’Smach International Border Gate in Oddar Meanchey province and installed additional barbed wire; land-clearing activities were also reported in the Anlong Veng border area. Cambodia reiterated that the unilateral actions had no legal effect and said it would continue to safeguard its national interests.
