As part of the nationwide anti-cybercrime campaign, Preah Sihanouk authorities reportedly inspected 15 suspected locations and found one alleged long-running online-scam operation in a residential building. The report described the operation as unprecedented in scale and aimed at scam networks hidden in the city.
The operation reportedly detained 121 people from nine nationality groups: 42 Chinese, 37 Sri Lankans, 22 Vietnamese, 12 Indians, and people from Kenya, the Philippines, Nepal, Bangladesh and Malaysia. Officers seized 123 computers and 132 phones; the report described the evidentiary chain as complete.
At the time of reporting, 42 Chinese suspects had been transferred to provincial police for further questioning to identify organisers. The other 79 foreigners were handed to immigration for planned deportation procedures. The provincial administration said 31 sites had recently been inspected and 24 alleged scam sites closed, and enforcement would continue.
