Summary

The report quotes APSARA project manager ពុទ្ធ សុទ្ធ as saying a new wooden bridge has replaced the deteriorated structure. The 189-metre walkway leads from the south towards the temple’s centre.

ពុទ្ធ សុទ្ធ, a project management head at the APSARA National Authority, said the new wooden bridge replaced the old structure, which had deteriorated with age and exposure to the weather. According to the report, the repairs were completed in early April 2026 with the aim of providing the highest possible level of safety for visitors of all nationalities.

The report describes Beng Mealea as becoming more attractive after APSARA completed repairs to its wooden pedestrian walkway, ready to welcome domestic and international visitors during the approaching Khmer New Year.

The new walkway is wider than before, with improved safety as an objective. At 189 metres long, it serves not only as a visitor route but also as what the report calls a “wooden guide”, leading visitors from the south towards the heart of the temple.

Known as a “temple in the forest”, Beng Mealea has a distinctive landscape combining architecture and nature. The new walkway has been laid out in an orderly way to help visitors appreciate the setting.

From the elevated walkway, visitors can look down on intricate carvings and atmospheric piles of stone while enjoying a refreshing walk beneath dense tree cover. The report likens the experience to walking through an ancient paradise.
