Summary

Speaking at an April 11 groundbreaking in Takeo, Hun Manet said Cambodia would pursue peaceful resolution through existing treaties, agreements and mechanisms, and hoped Thailand would put in place a properly constituted JBC leadership team for talks.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said Cambodia maintains its position of resolving the Cambodia–Thailand border issue peacefully, based on existing treaties, conventions and agreements that both sides previously agreed to sign, as well as international mechanisms.

He made the remarks while presiding over the groundbreaking ceremony for Section II of the Funan Techo Integrated Water Resources Management Project in Takeo province on the morning of April 11, 2026. He expressed hope that the border issue could be resolved soon so that people on both sides could live in peace.

Hun Manet described the border issue as having continued for nearly a year and expressed hope that a solution would be found in the near future.

He further said the Thai government had also proposed using these mechanisms to address its border issue with Cambodia and, as of his remarks, had not announced the rejection of any agreement with Cambodia.

Hun Manet also expressed hope that the Thai government would put in place a properly constituted Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) leadership team to meet the Cambodian side and resolve the border dispute in accordance with bilateral agreements. By Pai Sokhim
