Summary

The report presents the ministry’s advice on hand and food hygiene, avian influenza and dengue prevention, caution with alcohol, prompt medical care and the free 115 hotline.

According to the report, Cambodia’s Ministry of Health issued health-protection and care measures for Khmer New Year in the Year of the Horse, Atthasak, Buddhist Era 2569–2570 (2026). It urged the public to remain alert and follow hygiene measures carefully to prevent disease and other health risks.

The ministry also wished people across the country good health, happiness and success in their work, together with the four traditional Buddhist blessings of longevity, favourable appearance, happiness and strength.

The report says the ministry called for particular attention to avian influenza, food poisoning and alcohol poisoning. Recommendations included frequent handwashing with soap or using alcohol-based hand sanitiser, taking protective measures when handling animals, and avoiding the consumption of sick or dead animals.

Food should also be thoroughly cooked and properly stored, with clean water used and spoiled or expired food avoided. The ministry urged caution with local clear spirits, known as sra sa, of unknown provenance to prevent potentially fatal alcohol poisoning.

Other infectious-disease precautions listed in the report include wearing a mask when coughing or sneezing, drinking enough water, avoiding crowded places when feeling unwell, and promptly seeking care at the nearest health centre or hospital.

During the holiday, the public was also advised to prevent dengue by sleeping under mosquito nets, cleaning the surroundings of homes and reducing mosquito habitats and breeding sites, while observing traffic rules and taking precautions against household fires.

The ministry called on local authorities to monitor residents’ health and take prompt action when health problems arise, with particular attention to vulnerable groups.

For further information, the public can call the free 115 hotline or consult the Ministry of Health’s official channels. Written by សុខ ស៊ីណាន.
