On April 18, the Ministry of the Royal Palace announced that King Norodom Sihamoni would receive surgical treatment at a hospital in Beijing, China, on doctors’ advice, and would remain there for examination and treatment beginning on April 18. Messages of good wishes issued the same day referred to the King’s prostate cancer.
Following the announcement, the report says senior leaders, civil servants, armed forces, ministries, institutions and citizens across the country sent messages of concern and good wishes. Acting Head of State Hun Sen wished the King a swift recovery from prostate cancer.
Prime Minister Hun Manet also expressed deep concern in his message, wishing the King a successful operation and a continued role as a source of support for the nation. He voiced confidence that care from Chinese medical specialists would help the King recover soon. Other leaders, officials and armed forces sent similar wishes, while citizens expressed concern and prayers on social media.
Under the arrangements announced by the Royal Palace Ministry at the time, the King would remain at the Beijing hospital for further observation and care after surgery. He would return to Cambodia once his health and strength had improved and doctors approved his travel.
