The Cambodian government had previously instructed the Ministry of Commerce and the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce to establish a chamber representative office in Canada to help expand trade and investment. Canada, meanwhile, expressed its commitment to deepening economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
These statements on strengthening bilateral cooperation were made during a working meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Canada’s Ambassador to Cambodia, Christian DesRoches, at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on the morning of April 20, 2026.
The Ambassador emphasised Canada’s commitment to deeper bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and the economy. On regional cooperation, he thanked Cambodia for supporting stronger Canada–ASEAN economic ties and negotiations on the ASEAN–Canada Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA), which he expected would be concluded and signed in the near future.
Prime Minister Hun Manet noted that the government had previously instructed the Ministry of Commerce and the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce to establish a representative office in Canada as a bridge for economic cooperation and new trade and investment opportunities. He reaffirmed Cambodia’s readiness to continue strengthening relations and cooperation with Canada at both bilateral and international levels.
The Prime Minister and the Ambassador also discussed cooperation in priority areas including trade, investment and the economy, defence and security, and combating transnational crime.
