Myanmar’s new President Min Aung Hlaing met Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and China’s foreign minister, in Nay Pyi Taw on April 25. They exchanged views on regional security and transnational crime and expressed their intention to strengthen cooperation.
Min Aung Hlaing said Myanmar would never allow any activity within its territory that harmed China’s interests. He said Myanmar would step up action against online gambling and telecom fraud groups and take measures to protect Chinese personnel, institutions and major projects in the country.
Wang Yi said China was ready to deepen cooperation with Myanmar to resolutely and thoroughly eradicate online gambling and telecom fraud. The report characterised this position as zero tolerance and viewed the meeting as a signal of closer anti-fraud cooperation between the two countries.
