According to the report, two police officers in Koh Kong province were temporarily suspended: a deputy chief responsible for public order at the Kaoh Kong district police inspectorate, and the head of the Preaek Khsach commune administrative police post under the Kiri Sakor district police inspectorate. They were accused of involvement in releasing a person implicated in a traffic crash that killed one person.
Sources cited in the report said relatives of the deceased had appealed to the Ministry of Interior, alleging that the officers had failed to follow proper procedures and had released the person despite the seriousness of the case.
The report said the Koh Kong provincial police commissariat temporarily suspended the two officers to allow further inquiries to proceed fairly and transparently.
The final outcome would depend on whether the investigation established wrongdoing or procedural breaches. If faults were found, the officers could face disciplinary or legal action as applicable.
The report described the case as illustrating the importance of oversight, accountability and the public’s pursuit of justice. Text: ឡាយ កុល
