Thai news outlet 77kaoded reported on May 6 that Thai highway police stopped a pickup in Sa Kaeo and detained a Thai driver and six Chinese nationals suspected of immigration violations.
77kaoded reported that checks found one passenger had overstayed by 957 days, while the other five had no passports or entry-permission documents. These were reported investigation findings, not court convictions.
The original report cited police as saying they had received a tip about a grey pickup transporting Chinese nationals from the Thai-Cambodian border area towards Bangkok. Police deployed along the route and spotted the vehicle in Prachin Buri. The report said the driver refused to stop for a check and sped away, prompting a pursuit of more than seventy kilometres.
Police subsequently stopped the vehicle in Sa Kaeo and detained the 36-year-old Thai driver, whose name was transcribed as “苏塔” in the source, and the six Chinese nationals inside. The report said the driver told police he had been hired to transport them from near Aranyaprathet district, Sa Kaeo, to Bangkok for 5,000 baht per trip. At the time of reporting, everyone detained had been handed to local police for further action.
