Pailin’s provincial unified administrative command has continued security and public-order measures by setting up checkpoints along National Roads 57 and 59, with no end date specified. The checks seek to detect and prevent drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and explosives, and clandestine unlawful entry and residence by foreigners that may be linked to other offences, particularly online scams.
The operation was conducted on May 8, 2026, by joint law-enforcement forces coordinated by the provincial unified command. Its stated aims were to protect public security, safety and order and implement the Cambodian government’s measures against online scams and other cross-border crime.
The provincial unified command said continuing checkpoints and operations against drug trafficking, illegal weapons use, human trafficking, kidnapping and technology-related crime formed part of efforts to strengthen security and public-order management across the province. Authorities were also focusing on accommodation housing groups of foreign residents, casinos and other residential sites to prevent unlawful entry and residence and concealed illegal activities.
The report also said that, under the Cambodian government led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, authorities had continued strict enforcement against online scams, detaining suspects and associated individuals, referring cases to court, and carrying out procedures to return people to their countries of origin. Cambodia had also strengthened regional and international cooperation to exchange information about criminal networks and their leaders and combat cross-border crime. By: សុខ ស៊ីណាន
