According to the original report, military and police personnel from Wa, described as Special Region 2, and eastern Shan Special Region 4 recently carried out a joint operation against telecom fraud at a suspected site in the border area.
The report says officers found 611 computers and 535 mobile phones in 19 rooms linked to the investigation. The equipment was reportedly used in the suspected fraud activities.
Citing preliminary findings, the report alleged that those involved had engaged in sexual blackmail, violent debt collection and cross-border e-commerce fraud. It said 78 suspects were apprehended.
The report quoted local law-enforcement authorities as saying they would continue cross-regional joint operations and maintain a “zero-tolerance” stance towards the fraud activities.
The report urged the public to stay alert, avoid trusting suspicious information and exercise caution before transferring money.
