According to the report, on May 15, 2026, the Ministry of Commerce issued a document terminating គឹម ប្រុស’s appointment as head of its consumer protection and competition branch in Battambang province and removing him from the civil-service establishment.
Dr. គិន ភា, described in the original report as Director of the International Relations Institute of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, commented: “It is not just him!”
គិន ភា said the official’s error was to reach a hasty conclusion before establishing the durians’ origin, but argued that the matter should not concern him alone. He asked through which checkpoint the durians had been imported, who else should be held responsible, how responsibility should be addressed, and whether any liability beyond administrative disciplinary measures should be established. He described the case as a small test of restoring public trust.
The original report further quoted the scholar as saying that terminating the official’s appointment and removing him from the civil service after strong remarks by then-Acting Head of State Hun Sen reflected a pattern in which forceful administrative measures emerged only after instructions or advice from the highest leadership, before matters fell quiet and similar problems recurred. These were the scholar’s views. Article: ឡាយ កុល
