Preah Sihanouk province: With support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has established a “Marine Aquaculture Life Skills Extension Centre” with the aim of increasing incomes in coastal communities.
Provincial Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Department Director នេន ចំរើន described the initiative on May 14, 2026, when Governor Mang Sineth and officials from relevant departments inspected progress at the marine aquaculture centre and took part in releasing juvenile crabs, ត្រីឆ្គង់ fish and shrimp in សំរ៉ុង commune, Prey Nob district, Preah Sihanouk province.
The department director said the centre was being developed with support from Deputy Prime Minister សាយ សំអាល់, head of the Royal Government Working Group for Preah Sihanouk province; Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister ឌិត ទីណា; and Governor Mang Sineth. Its objectives are to:
• Improve the economic efficiency of marine aquaculture;
• Increase incomes in coastal communities;
• Conduct research and extend techniques to residents both locally and elsewhere so that they can use the centre as a model.
He added that the centre was an initial pilot using techniques learned elsewhere for research. After three and a half months, it was operating four culture ponds:
• Pond 1 had been raising ត្រីឆ្គង់ fish for more than two months;
• Pond 2 combined crabs and shrimp;
• Ponds 3 and 4 were being stocked with juvenile crabs and shrimp on this occasion.
The centre was continuing to expand towards seven ponds on a total site of approximately 16 hectares.
During his inspection of crab, shrimp and fish farming at the centre, Governor Mang Sineth encouraged and supported the agriculture department and technical staff in working towards successful production and higher marine aquaculture yields to supply markets within the province, with the possibility of expanding to markets in other provinces in the future.
