A contemporaneous May 14 report cited the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology as forecasting rain and gusts in Cambodia’s lowlands, highlands and coastal areas on May 14–16 under the southwest monsoon. The coastal figure of 40% referred to expected area coverage, not the chance of rain or national coverage.
Kampuchea Thmey reported on May 14 that Dr លី សូវ៉ាន់, the Health Ministry spokesperson and head of its communicable-disease department, urged awareness of rainy-season infections, including dengue, influenza, febrile illness, food- and waterborne disease and cholera. That report did not announce a cholera outbreak.
The report said he advised preparing raincoats, umbrellas and waterproof footwear, maintaining personal and food hygiene, drinking warm water or soup and eating nutritious foods and vegetables.
For dengue prevention, the report recommended clearing discarded tyres, coconut shells and other water-holding objects to reduce mosquito breeding sites and protect children.
The report cited Dr លី សូវ៉ាន់ as recommending continued mask use, frequent handwashing with soap and water, and avoiding coughing directly into the palms to reduce hand-mediated transmission.
The original article advised watching the weather and one’s health.
The original article also advised seeking professional assessment for persistent high fever, headache or muscle pain.
