According to a report published by Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior on May 17 and credited to the Pailin Provincial Administration, Pailin Governor Ban Sreymom, who also chairs the provincial Unified Command Committee, led a joint enforcement team in coordination with the prosecutor attached to the provincial Court of First Instance to inspect a site housing foreign nationals in Sala Krao district on May 17, 2026. Seven Chinese nationals were detained at the site, which authorities suspected was linked to online scam activity.
The report said authorities seized 18 all-in-one computers, 147 mobile phones and other related items.
The report also said the site’s fibre-optic internet connection had previously been cut, but suspects used SIM cards to connect to the internet instead.
The report said the inspection implemented the Cambodian government’s Sub-Decree No. 03, dated January 5, 2026. It said the operation aimed to strengthen the management of communal accommodation sites, maintain security and public order in the province, and prevent and combat human trafficking and online scams.
