A joint search team led by ហ៊ួរ មិថុនា, Kep’s deputy governor and head of the provincial disaster management committee’s secretariat, has recovered the bodies of a mother and her two sons. They were aboard a small boat that sank while the family was gathering cockles off Ou Krasar commune in Kep city on the afternoon of May 17, 2026.
According to the report, waves washed the bodies into mangroves and onto sandy ground about one kilometre from the accident site.
Authorities said the family of four — the father, mother and two children — had gone out by boat to gather cockles. Strong winds and large waves struck during the journey, causing the boat to sink.
The father, រស់ សាម, 40, survived. His wife, ណាំ ធារី, 38, and their two sons, aged 10 and 8, died. The family lived in Ou Krasar village, Ou Krasar commune, Kep city, Kep province.
Authorities urged people who fish or work at sea to exercise greater caution, particularly during the rainy season and adverse weather.
